Just a little background on Hennie...

Hennie Thompson (27) is my little brother who I raised since I was 7 years old, because our parents died at a very young age.
May I just say, this is a miracle walking around, as he was born on 6 and a half months with only one lung working at the time and recovered after 6 months in ICU.  He survived cancer the 1st time, and I believe he will do it again.

1st Cancer Symtoms & Treatment:
It started off with Flu Symptoms... on a regular basis.
After some tests was done, they diagnosed Hennie with Stage 1 Embryonal Testicular Carcinoma on 13 October 2018.   His alpha fetoprotein marker was positive 21.2.  His histology of his radical orchidectomy showed an embryonic germ cell malignant tumor. The tumor is 23x18x10 mm in size.
We had to make an urgent plan to get the money together for the operation. After some loans were made, he underwent surgery the same week to remove the tumor.

The test results after the operation from the doctors came back and they saw the following:
Lung Fields: Small pleural based nodule in the lower lobe. No nodules that can fit in with metastases.
Liver: Small calcification in the inferior right lobe. Fatty infiltration adjacent to the falciform ligament.
Pancreas and Spleen: Homogenous parenchyma
Scrotum: Signs of right orchidectomy and small left hydrocele.
Urine Test: Very high infection count.

On the 2nd of January 2019 he went to Steve Biko Hospital to start with Chemo. They again did some tests.
Results:
The black patch on his lung was a very serious tumor and grew much bigger in a months’ time as what they expected. The cancer appeared to have spread to his lungs. The doctor at Steve Biko Hospital said that he had to start his chemo sessions immediately as the tumor is growing very fast. His 1st Chemo session started on the 10th of January 2019. He was submitted in hospital for 5 days with 4 hours of chemo sessions per day.  He was basically flushed with Chemo over 2 months.

Treatment received:
*Bicomycin
*Etoposide
*Cisplatin

This was a long hard road for Hennie, his family & friends. Due to the chemo sessions, he got sick very quickly. There is quite a long list of what Hennie went through with side effects of all the chemo sessions.
After 3 weeks of chemo, they discovered on 24 January 2019 that Hennies white blood cells count was very low (1.3),  where it should usually be between 7 & 11. He had to inject himself with S4 Neupogen 30 MU for days to make the white blood cells more.
After chemo he recovered very well and was in remission from April 2019 up until now.

2nd Cancer Symtoms & Treatment:
Hennie struggled the last 2 years, having problems with his heart. His heart rate will drop very low (30), or it will spike to the roof (180). He went for a minor operation last year to get a loop recorder implanted to monitor his heart.
He was also in an accident last year January 2023, where the knock on his head caused Inner Lobe Bleeding on the Brain. He was treated for that as well in Hospital. After the accident he has short term memory loss, he can't always remember things, mostly small things, but it was getting worse as the year went by. Since November 2023, he is struggling again with flu symptoms & headaches. Last week, the 1st of February 2024, he passed out at work, went to the Doctor, and did some blood tests. We received feedback from the lab, there is again a cancer count of 78.
Hennie is still not on medical aid, as he cannot afford the monthly payment. He got a reveral letter today from his doctor to go to Steve Biko Hospital to get the following tests done which will happen within the next week.
*Breast Biopsy for the Nodule
*Nerve Boipsy
*Blood Tests
*MRI Scan
*CT scan etc.
Once we receive the results and know exactly where the cancer is and what stage I will update this page accordingly.

We would like to raise money for Hennie to pay all his medical bills and help him have an income as he is now on unpaid leave until we know what's coming next. We would like to support him by giving him the chance to heal, and not worry about any outstanding payments.

Thank you for your generous donation to my brother's funding campaign. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
