Hello everyone,
This is Gianna, and she is the youngest of our five siblings, has been in and out of the hospital since she was just 3 months old. As parents, it's a constant worry when your child is so young and unable to communicate what is wrong or if they are in pain.
After months of extensive tests, Gianna was recently diagnosed at the age of 10 months with Severe Congenital Neutropenia (SCN), a rare hematological disease characterized by a selective decrease in circulating neutrophils, bone marrow maturation arrest at the promyelocyte stage, and susceptibility to infections.
This diagnosis has been a shock for our family, and while we have been doing our best to manage, the financial strain is significant as we do not have medical aid. Despite being at the Red Cross Hospital, Gianna's treatment is not entirely covered, and there are costs for which we are responsible.
Her daily injections alone cost R3000, in addition to other at-home medications required whenever she's discharged.
Any parent can relate to the desire to provide the best care for their children and reassure them that Mommy and Daddy have everything under control, no matter how challenging the situation.
Today, I reach out to friends, family, strangers, and fellow parents. If you have the ability to assist us on this journey in any way, big or small, the Schippers family would be immensely grateful.
Your support will make a significant difference in Gianna's life and help us ensure she receives the care she needs. Thank you for considering our plea and being a part of this crucial support network.
