Personal message

Hi, my name is Gerrit. I have chosen to ride for Home of Hope's, Ride for a Child Campaign, hoping that I can raise R12000.00 and make an impact on a child's life.

The children at Home of Hope come from abandoned, abused and neglected backgrounds. They are our future, and we need to take care of them.

This year, my little buddy is Grace. Grace lived with her mother, who was unable to care for her, and as a result of her trauma, she was placed in Home of Hope's care. In addition, she is faced with mental, cognitive and emotional challenges due to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), which is permanent brain damage caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol.

Despite everything she loves to learn, reading is one of her favourite hobbies, dancing, drawing, and playing with her friends. Grace is a big sister and always tries her best to assist and protect her sister.

Being a big sister, living with FASD, coming from a traumatic background and now living in a Children's Home is tough for a little girl of 10 years old. This is why I would like to help Home of Hope continue making a positive impact on Grace's life.

We can make a difference by raising R12000.00 to help Grace. I applause the supportive work that Home of Hope does. They believe that every child deserves a brighter future, and I am honoured to join the team.

The money raised will go directly towards the immediate care of Grace and her education.

Home of Hope was started in 2005, and we are an NPO that cares for abandoned and abused children and children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD – permanent brain damage caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol). We are a registered place of safety and we have 19 children in our long term community based foster care.

The organisation also caters for the special educational needs of children suffering from FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and neurological challenges, in our Amathemba Learning Centre. There are currently 37 children at our Amathemba Learning Centre.
