I sent my car in for brake repairs to a well known mechanic in May 2023. The cost was R19000. Just before we left for a short break, we advised the mechanic to keep the vehicle and we will collect on our return. Upon our return, we were informed that the vehicle is running a bearing and other major repairs would need to be done. We got the quote and agreed on completion of the work by the end of July 2023. We paid upfront to cover costs for parts and engineering etc. Come end July, no repairs as he is moving warehouse. We wait. Come October, work is slowly getting done. Come December, work in progress and car will be done in 2 weeks. Come mid Jan 2024, repairs still in progress but will be done in Feb 2024. Come mid Feb, no repairs. We find out that all the engine parts are missing and cannot be recovered. We have opened a case of theft but we are still outstanding the money to pay for repairs as well as the money lost for the first round of repairs. Bits and pieces of the engine is in the trunk of the car.
