Personal message

Shasha-Lee Devilliers 6year At first she started feeling sick at home. Her body was sore. Shhe also complained that her lower stomach is in pain her skin started to look very pale.We then took her to a private docter where he saw that is sort of blood. He immediately sent us to Ceres hospital.

They had to give her an emergency blood transfusion. Took blood test and sent us to Worcester hospital for further tests. When we got to Worcester hospital, they discovered that Shasha-Lee has cancer. They were not sure what type of cancer she had. So they sent us to Tygerberg hospital to find out the exact type of cancer she had.

Tygerberg then ran more tests and the results said the she has leukemia and also has TB. That day our lives changed. I had to stop working. Ever since that day it was uphill battle for the whole family. August 2022.Tygerberg immediately started with chemo, after two month of treatment the treatment was not working. They started with a new and more aggressive treatment, and after a month on the new treatment, she had allergic reactions to the first treatment, she had a rash, everything started swelling, her eyes, tongue and lips. It was a very scary moment to see her like that.

Thankfully we were staying at CHOC house at the time a walking distance from Tygerberg. After the allergies reaction they found out that they lasted two treatment did,nt work .She is currently on her third treatment.

She had a stem cell transplant sinc3, her sister Shaylin Jacobs (2 years ) was the donor and gave 72% of her cells. The transplant was successful so far .She is now day 50 after the transplant and still doing well. She is seeing doctors to monitor her cell counts. She will be monitored by the doctors for a further 50 days. Please keep her in your prayers.

Shasha-Lee Devilliers, a 6-year-old, experienced illness and was diagnosed with leukemia and tuberculosis after tests at various hospitals. Despite initial chemotherapy, a more aggressive treatment was needed due to its ineffectiveness. Facing allergic reactions, she transitioned to a third treatment, which involved a successful stem cell transplant from her 2-year-old sister. Currently, on day 50 post-transplant, Shasha-Lee is doing well, but ongoing monitoring is essential. The family appreciates prayers and support during this challenging time.
