2018 was a very special year for us as we welcomed our own, very special little dude to the world. What made Callan’s arrival even more special, was the fact that my Dad (in the profile pic at my very first Omtom in 2013) was able to be with us on the day of his birth. And the fact that he has access to dialysis made it possible for him to be part and share in that blessed day.
Now, the last time I took part in any race was in 2017! And I wanted my first race after having Callan, to be meaningful. It is for this reason that I will be doing the OMTOM half marathon to raise awareness and funds for the Cape Kidney Association. They assist dialysis patients with monthly food parcels, travel allowance to get to the hospitals for their dialysis and bursaries to further their studies or start-up costs for small businesses AND they are the only organisation in the Western Cape that is Kidney Patient care based.
This is a cause very dear to my heart and I would appreciate any donation big or small to this worthy cause. Oh, and a cheer and a little prayer on the day of the run would also be appreciated, as this Mama is going to have her work cut out for her.

The Cape Kidney Association was founded in 1978 by a group of Nephrology Doctors and Nurses who saw the need to assist the Indigent kidney patients. Patients travel from afar as there are no dialysis units close by. We serve majority patients in the Renal Unit at Groote Schuur and Tygerberg Hospitals. Most of the patients are unemployed and some of them receive disability grants.
