Update
It is with deep sadness that we have to announce the passing of our dearest Diego. He did not survive the surgery, as the vets found that his internal damage was just too extensive. It is very likely that it was a congenital deformity. The vets immediately fell in love with Diego, showed us so much compassion, and were committed to keeping him pain-free throughout the experience.
We are so humbled by the genorosity of the HOOT community. All funds raised will be used to cover vet bills and the cost of cremation. We will have a ceremony at school to allow learners an opportunity to say goodbye and thank Diego for all the love he brought to our lives.
It is an honor to be Diego's chosen family, and we are so blessed that we could provide him with love and a safe place for his last days on Earth. He did more for us than we can ever begin to explain.
“Dogs die. But dogs live, too. Right up until they die, they live. They live brave, beautiful lives. They protect their families. And love us. and make our lives a little brighter. And they don’t waste time being afraid of tomorrow.” Dan Gemeinhart

Diego wandered into our lives when he made himself at home on our school property. Despite clearly being treated poorly by humans, Diego has been an angel. He is patient, silly and loving. He is estimated to be 2 years old or younger.
