Personal message
Hi, My name is Denver and I am from Athlone. I am an addict and alcoholic of 25 years. Running and the goal of completing the Comrades one day has kept me sober for over 4 years now. I am trying to raise funds for myself to run the Comrades marathon to inspire others like me.
In my 4 years of sobriety, I have managed to learn to drive a car, get my license and buy a car at the age of 44. I have put myself back into school and graduated with a BBA degree this year at 47. I have achieved this whilst both working and studying full-time. What got me through was the life skills training at RAMOT rehab and the goal of the Comrades as it taught me perseverance and that anything is possible.
I am trying to raise funds to cover the expenses to get from Cape Town to Durban for the Comrades. After all the hard work I have put in I need to get there. It is important for me to complete this feat as I feel that my story has the power to inspire others to also overcome the hardships that they are facing. If I can do it at the age of 47 after 25 years of addiction than so can anyone else. I want to prove to people that it is never too late and that there is always HOPE, no matter the circumstances.
All the funds will go towards getting me to the Comrades and accommodation during my stay. The funds will also go to running shoes and running equipment. All the money that is left over, I will donate to my rehab to enable them to help more people like me.
Thank you for your love, kindness, and support.
