Your support can help Dejane maybe having a chance to walk again. 14 year old Dejane fights Transverse Myelitis, she is paralyzed from hips down but hoping to walk again. We are raising funds to get Stemcell treatment for her at Stemcure Clinic in Nelspruit - Dr Hein van Wyk. Treatment period is +- 4 weeks.

We are living in George and need to stay in Nelspruit for +- 4 weeks. Quote we received from a guest house that is wheelchair friendly is R11 200. Fuel cost +- R10 000 to Nelspruit and back. 
 
Total cost that we need funding for to help are R104 500.
 
Background:
 
Dejane complained of back pain on the evening of 28 October 2022, went to take a shower and after that she could no longer walk.  We took her to Medi Clinic in George.
 
After a few tests, X-rays, lumberpunch and MRI scan she was first diagnosed with Gillian Barre and got treatment.  Her doctor was concerned and they did a second MRI scan which confirmed she have Transverse Myelitis. She was transfered to Aurora Hospital (rehabilitation centre) on the 24 of November 2022.
 
On the 18th  of January 2023 she went home for the first time in 12 weeks. Unfortunately no movement in legs but her progress was excellent.  Back in George she is still attending all her sessions (Occupational therapy, Physio and Intensity Training, fitness & nutrition), and working really hard towards a chance of walking again.
 
Attending a school where she is the only child in a wheelchair and keeping her grades up in this very confusing and difficult time in her life. 
 
What is Transvers Myelitis?
 
Transverse Myelitis is an inflammation of both sides of one section of the spinal cord. This neurological disorder often damages the insulating material covering nerve cell fibers (myelin).  Transverse Myelitis interrupts the messages that the spinal cord nerves send throughout the body.  TM is a rare but very serious medical condition which can have a devastating effect on one's life.  Early diagnosis and correct treatment offers the best chance of recovery.
 
Most people recover for TM within 3 months after the condition happens.  For some, healing may take months to years.  While some people recover from the inflammation with little or no lasting complications, others recover with moderate or severe disabilities.

I'm Dejane, a 14-year-old battling Transverse Myelitis, leaving me paralyzed from the hips down.

But I'm not giving up hope. With your support, I might walk again. We're raising funds for Stemcell treatment at Stemcure Clinic in Nelspruit, under Dr. Hein van Wyk. The treatment lasts around 4 weeks, costing a total of R83,300. We also need to cover living expenses in Nelspruit, fuel costs, and accommodation, totaling R104,500.

Here's a brief overview: I first experienced back pain on October 28, 2022, and lost the ability to walk shortly after. Initially diagnosed with Gillian Barre, subsequent tests revealed Transverse Myelitis. Since then, I've been undergoing intensive rehabilitation, aiming for recovery and a chance to walk again.

Transverse Myelitis is a rare inflammation of the spinal cord, disrupting nerve signals throughout the body. While some recover fully within three months, others face long-term disabilities.
