My name is Dr Niall Evans. I am a specialist anaesthesiologist in Cape Town, affiliated to the private and public hospital doctor groups.

Currently, both public and private hospitals in South Africa are unable to provide frontline healthworkers with N95 masks.

Healthworkers need N95 masks to prevent themselves from contracting COVID-19.

The Solidarity Fund is working on providing N95 masks countrywide.

We are developing 3D-printed visors here in Cape Town to wear on top of the N95 masks to protect against droplets and aerosolized particles.

We are also arranging protective N95 mask shipments from China

I will personally oversee the delivery of the visors to each hospital’s healthworker group. This is a local, Capetonian effort being run by a doctor for doctors and nurses with no intermediaries.

If we can do this, we can help prevent the contagion of doctors and nurses at the frontline.
