Personal message
Hi All,
I've been nominated to participate in hiking the Fish River Canyon this May. The event is sponsored by my employer, Old Mutual Finance (OMF), with the objective being to challenge participants to stretch their personal limits. The hike has become part of our organization's culture, not only motivating the hikers, but it generally inspires and stirs enthusiasm across the entire office - encouraging everyone to get outdoors, explore and push themselves to do more (and BE more).
Personally, hiking the Fish River Canyon itself has always been one of my dream treks - roadtrips have been planned and postponed on numerous occassions, and now, one week before having to submit to a medical fitness assessment, it's finally happening - yay! I've done a few challenging hikes before - but this one is by far going to be the toughest one for me! So, as additional motivation, myself and 29 OMF colleagues are using this opportunity to raise funds for The Red Cross Children's Hospital.
The Red Cross Children's Hospital is the only hospital in the whole of South Africa dedicated solely to children. About 98% of their little patients come from poor communities. As a child, I remember spending a fair amount of time in the waiting rooms of the hospital, but on each and every occassion, I was treated by some of the most dedicated nurses and doctors in the country. So, this will be my small little contribution towards helping the hospital maintain and improve the quality of healthcare provided to children whose parents can't afford private hospital care.
Please help me reach my goal of raising R2,000 to donate to the hospital. To donate, click on the yellow button on the right hand side of the page (next to the thermometer). You can safely donate by credit card or EFT. Every little bit helps!
The Children's Hospital Trust guarantees that all our contributions go directly to the Hospital, without a single cent going to administration costs. To find out more about what they do, please check out their website.
Thank you!
P.S. You may also follow my Fish River Canyon journey (starting 12 May 2016) by liking the "OMF Adventure Academy" page on Facebook.

The Children's Hospital Trust

A hospital dedicated entirely to children – especially children predominantly from impoverished communities throughout Africa – is critically important. So important, that it needs a champion to make sure that it’s able to keep doing the phenomenal work it does.
That champion is the Children’s Hospital Trust.
