I have followed Rainbows and Smiles for a while and I love to see the happiness and joy it brings to others. It makes me feel overwhelmed with sadness and happiness at the same time. As a Mom of two children I always think (quite gratefully) thank goodness that isn’t one of my daughters, or family members in those oncology units and at the same time I am filled with a despondent feeling of what the parents and families of children fighting cancer must go through on a daily basis as well as the children themselves – they are so young.
I am a very blessed mom of two healthy children who are amazing (As all parents feel the same about their children). What if I could just make a small difference to another child’s life by raising some money to bring them some happiness while they fight for their young lives against this horrible disease, well then my reason for wanting to run for rainbows and smiles is – WHY THE HELL NOT!
If we can raise even R 100.00 for a child that we’ve never met and that will bring some happiness and distraction to the battle that they are fighting by adding a smile and rainbow to their fights - that will be awesome. I don’t want a pat on the back (We usually do this anonymously and just donate).
If I can help Rainbows and Smiles get some exposure for this fun charity that brings hope to those who have very little of it and joy to those who haven’t felt joyful in a while, well then count me in...

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer. In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection.
