Personal message

Meet twin boys Ase and Luhle. They are currently in the care of Chris and Nella Nowlan, from Mooi River in KZN. The boys are 2 years old, and they come from a situation where the mom is unable to look after them.

The boys are very happy in their current home. They live in a large spacious farm house and they love going on walks to see the farm ducks and other farm animals. Chris and Nella are both teachers, and so they are bringing the boys up in way where they can explore the world, and become confident in life. It does, however, cost a lot to raise these boys. Chris and Nella both have full time jobs, so the boys need care in the mornings. They attend a pre-school which will cost R3000 (US$160) per month in 2024. In addition there are expenses for food, clothes and medical care should they need to see a doctor. They are still wearing nappies, especially at night but less and less during the day. The boys are lactose intolerant which means they need soy milk which is more expensive than normal milk.

The estimated monthly cost of caring for the boys is R5000 (US$270) per month. Up until now there is no formal social grant, but this may become possible later in 2024. Should this become a reality, it will only cover half of the costs. The target for the crowd funding is thus R60 000 (US$3275) for the year, but this will be lowered if any social grant is received. Any surplus collected will be put into a savings account and put toward their education needs in 2025.
