Personal message

As proud ambassador for Cell C’s Take a Girl Child to Work Day®, I want to inspire and create opportunities for girl learners. The Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day® is more than just an event, it’s an ongoing movement.  The long-term goal is to raise funds for the Cell C Girl Child Bursary Fund and contribute towards tertiary education for qualifying girl learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In 2012 Cell C partnered with NPO, Tomorrow Trust, to form the Girl Child Bursary Fund. The Tomorrow Trust’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty by creating independent, well-rounded and self-sustainable graduates.  Like Cell C, they believe that the empowerment of women begins with education and are a valuable partner that assist to manage the Bursary Fund.

Corporates and the general public have made generous donations to the Fund and to date 30 post-matric qualifying girls have received bursaries and we have produced 13 graduates. Each young woman is supported holistically through academic, psychosocial and financial support. Bursaries cover registration, tuition, books, accommodation, workshops as well as a monthly allowance.  The success stories are heart-warming.

  • Patience completed her LLB law degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2015 and is working for Alexander Forbes.
  • Tumisang completed her National Diploma in IT as well as her BTech in Information Technology in 2016 and is employed at Cell C.
  • Ongeziwe from Mthatha in the Eastern Cape graduated with a B.Com Honours in Tax after finishing a degree in accountancy and is employed at Ernst and Young.

Please join me to provide more bursaries for our girl children.

Funds donated go directly to Cell C’s partner NPO, the Tomorrow Trust and all donors receive a Section 18A tax letter as well as a BEE certificate.”

Warm regards

About the Cell C & Tomorrow Trust partnership

Education remains one of the most important means of achieving gender equity as it empowers women with knowledge, skills, self-confidence and social and economic status. These qualities enable women to participate meaningfully in our economy. Given the number of young women who are unemployed and therefore vulnerable in every possible way, education is critical. Offering bursaries to girls, provides a long term investment in achieving Cell C’s goal of empowering women in South Africa.

Since 2012, the Cell C Girl Child Bursary Fund - in partnership with The Tomorrow Trust - has supported 30 beneficiaries from disadvantaged backgrounds to obtain formal qualifications. The Tomorrow Trust was founded in 2005 and works exclusively with orphans and vulnerable youth. Their aim is to release the cycle of poverty and charity, and deliver self-sustainable, self-reliant individuals who will become pro-active contributors to our society and economy.
