The Cape Kidney Association was founded in 1978 (42years) and have been successful in the operation. Our focus is on assisting Indigent kidney patients suffering from chronic kidney disease, and having to attend hospitals three times per week for 4 hours. Most of the families are unemployed due to their illness, and many have to travel far to reach the hospitals, sometimes having to leave their homes in the early hours of the morning.

We have maintained a steady income through fundraising events which have sustained us all these years. With this lockdown due to the Covid-19 epidemic, we have not been able to host any fundraising events, therefore we have no income now, which is affecting our Organization badly due to our focus being on assisting the Indigent kidney patients in and around the greater Western Cape. Our main focus currently is on Groote Schuur and Tygerberg Hospitals.

We assist 160 x patients with monthly food hampers at a cost of R275.00 per month with a total of R44,000.00 per month. Sometimes the request is less, but never less than 130, depending on the need, however, we deal directly with the Social Workers at the hospitals, so they assist the needs monthly. We also assist with bursaries on request from patients via the Social Workers. Sustaining and maintaining our office in order to manage this is a priority at the moment.
