Personal message
My name is Calvin, and I am an Engineer from Durbanville, Cape Town.
A caring member of my community posted that Ride for a Child needs riders. Since moving to Cape Town, I've wanted to compete in the Cape Town Cycle Tour, and I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to ride and make a difference in a child's life.
It's excellent that there's an organization caring for and helping these kids, and I look forward to making any contribution I can.
My little buddy for the Ride for a Child campaign is Thandiwe. Thandiwe has been part of the Home of Hope family for many years.
She has cognitive, emotional and behavioural challenges due to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder which is permanent brain damage caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder has affected Thandiwe's ability to learn and attend a mainstream school; therefore, she must attend Amathemba Special Needs school.
She is a caring, loving and kind-hearted little girl who loves to sing, dance and work with little children. Reaching my target would mean actively making a difference in an abandoned, abused and neglected child's life.
I would like to raise R12 000.00 for Thandiwe's daily needs and education.

Home of Hope

Home of Hope was started in 2005, and we are an NPO that cares for abandoned and abused children and children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD – permanent brain damage caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol). We are a registered place of safety and we have 19 children in our long term community based foster care.
The organisation also caters for the special educational needs of children suffering from FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and neurological challenges, in our Amathemba Learning Centre. There are currently 37 children at our Amathemba Learning Centre.
