Personal message

We need to raise R7000 BY THE END OF JANUARY for Braydon's hearing aid. After that, the medical aid will no longer contribute toward the hearing aid and Braydon will lose his opportunity to hear, and therefore learn.

A story from Braydon's mom. Braydon was born prematurely at 36 weeks, and early tests revealed hearing issues. At just 6 weeks old, he received his first set of grommets. The ongoing challenge with the grommet in his right ear necessitated frequent replacements to alleviate pressure on the eardrum.

To add to his difficulties, when I was three months pregnant with Braydon, an assault by his biological father led to a near miscarriage. Unfortunately, this incident occurred during a critical period of Braydon's ear tube development. His first surgical intervention took place at one year old in an attempt to close a hole in his ear, but it was unsuccessful. The second surgery followed at the age of two. Now, at 17, Braydon has undergone 11 operations on his right eardrum.

Attending a remedial school initially, Braydon struggled with the academic demands, prompting consideration of homeschooling. Transitioning to the IMPAQ syllabus proved too intense, leading us to enroll him in Think Digital. Despite excelling in his studies with no subject scoring below 80%, Braydon, who works on a computer, requires a specific type of hearing aid. Due to Braydon's age, a bluetooth hearing aid is recommended, as this will allow for more direct connectivity to various other technology devices, such as cell phones and televisions, which he needs for learning at school.

Braydon attempted to manage without hearing aids throughout the past year, but his speech has deteriorated. When he can't hear, he instinctively cups his hand around his ear, creating an improvised "tunnel" for sound.

I've managed to secure R15,000, which I've paid to the audiologist, and my medical aid will contribute an additional R9,000. We now desperately need R7,000 to complete the necessary funds for Braydon's hearing aid. Braydon has 2 years left of school and without the hearing aids its impossible for him to hear and do his best.

WE ONLY HAVE UNTIL THE END OF JANUARY to secure the funds needed for Braydon's hearing aid. Your support can make a life-changing difference. Please donate today.
