Completing the 9 day Joberg2C in my 60th year started out as a “bucket list” item for me until two events changed my life forever.

In July 2015 I survived a double heart attack and a month later our son lost his 15 year battle with depression prompting me to reflect on my own mortality and how precious time is and lives are.

After the heart attacks I didn’t know if I’d be able to ride again but after Jean-Pierre died I didn’t know if I’d be able to live again…. being able to take part in Joberg2C has contributed to my healing but doing it to benefit such a worthy organisation and know that someone’s life will be positively affected is the real blessing.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (www.sadag.org) is the largest mental health organisation in the country and actively assists those struggling with depression, bipolar, trauma, panic and anxiety, substance abuse and suicidal thoughts.

The reality is that 1 in 4 people struggle with mental health problems, there are 23 suicides a day in South Africa and almost 70% of them are between the age of 18 and 39.

ANY contribution one makes will make a difference because ANY difference one makes, makes a difference

Clearly this world is harsh enough without our help so lets all strive to BE KINDER THAN NECESSARY
