We would like to bring to your attention an important initiative that is in need of your support.

At the heart of the beautiful Constantia region in Cape Town, South Africa the CT2 Troop of baboons has faced unprecedented challenges in recent times. With the withdrawal of Baboon monitors by the City of Cape Town in April 2022, these baboons have been left to navigate this urban environment on their own, resulting in conflicts with residents and endangering the baboons lives as they are shot at and also have to contend with crossing busy roads ie: Rhodes drive, Southern Cross and Constantia main road.

In response to this crisis, Baboon Watch WC (NPC) and Baboon Matters (NPO), employed 6 baboon monitors plus a driver. The monitors have been working tirelessly to redirect the troop to safe areas (Cecelia forest), away from traffic and potential harm. Since their inception in October 2022, these monitors have made a significant impact, drastically reducing home incursions and safeguarding lives. With no help from City of Cape Town, Baboon Matters and Baboon Watch WC are left having to raise money via donations and various fundraising efforts to cover the monthly expenses of R 48 000 per month. Sustaining this critical effort requires ongoing support.

Currently, we have two teams of three experienced monitors, each working diligently from 06:30 a.m. to 19:00 p.m in rolling shifts.
