Empower Arabella and Leo: Journey to Certify Leo as a Service Dog

Hello wonderful supporters,

Meet Arabella, a brave 7-year-old girl with diastrophic dysplasia, and her incredible companion, Leo, a Border Collie adopted from the local animal shelter in 2023. Leo has become more than just a furry friend – he's Arabella's mobility assistance dog, providing her with a newfound sense of independence and relief.

Leo's Remarkable Progress:

In just a few short months, Leo has achieved what most dogs take up to two years to perfect. Despite still officially being "in training," Leo has already mastered the skills of a fully trained service dog. His dedication to Arabella's well-being goes beyond expectations, showcasing a level of commitment that warms our hearts.

The Next Steps:

Arabella and Leo have taken on the training journey themselves, with guidance from Lucy at Honey's Garden Medical Alert Dogs through video conferencing. Now, we seek your support to take the next crucial steps in Leo's training. We plan to attend a two-week, in-person training session on public access and task training, where Lucy or her experienced team members can refine Leo's skills, ensuring he becomes a 100% solid service dog.

Testing Immediately Following Training:

Upon completing the two-week training sessions, Leo and Arabella will undergo testing to assess Leo's proficiency and readiness as a certified service dog. This immediate testing ensures that the skills refined during the training are put to the test, and any additional adjustments can be made promptly.

We have absolutely no doubt that Leo will excel in his test.

Cost Breakdown:

• Testing Fees

Harness Upgrade:

Arabella and Leo are currently using a normal harness however, as time has passed, it's become clear that a proper, professionally designed harness is essential for both Leo's health and safety and Arabella's comfort. We plan to upgrade Leo's harness to better suit his role as a mobility assistance dog. The link to the harness can be found here:
