Personal message

After weeks of procrastination, I have decided to stop talking about running and actually do something proactive. I have therefore entered into the inaugral Brighton Marathon (UK) to be held on 18th April, 2010.  As this will be my first ever marathon, and lets face it, my first ever serious physical challenge(!) I would like to ask for donations to a charity called Children in the Wilderness.

Children in the Wilderness is an environmental and life skills educational programme that helps vulnerable, rural children and teaches them the importance of conservation. The Children in the Wilderness programme aims to develop environmental leaders who are inspired to care for their heritage so that they become the custodians of these areas in the future. Children in the Wilderness exposes children to their wildlife heritage, builds and strengthens their capabilities to cope with life's challenges and educates them with the life skills necessary to actualise their greatest potential.

The monies i raise will be targeted towards the Botswana arm of Children in the Wilderness. Most of you will know that I have been working in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, one of the world's greatest ecoregions, and one of the few pristine wetlands left in Africa today. Protecting this unique wildnerness for future generations lies in the hands of local people - this charity provides a vital role in raising awareness in conservation, biodiversity and wise use amongst the young people of Botswana. For pictures of some of the research I have been carrying out in Botswana, see my flickr site:

Donating via this website is one of the most efficent ways to donate money to African charities. Alternatively, I am also more than happy to take pledges of support, and once I complete the marathon, will arrange payment directly to the charity.

Please donate generously, and many thanks for your support. For info, there are approximately 12 South African Rand (R) to the £1.
