Hi I am Johann Müller.
My wife, Lucy, and I believe that quality education is an enabler to grow our wonderful country, and we attempt to contribute where we can towards the education of the next generation.
In line with our passion, this fundraiser is for a very diligent and deserving young lady called Angelique Williams (Angel for short). Angel is the youngest child of Corrie and Walter Williams, both of whom matriculated with me in 1986.
Angel matriculated at Hoërskool Brandwag (City of Ekurhuleni) in 2023 with 7 distinctions and an average above 85% - truly remarkable results given the challenges the family faced.
Angel has enrolled for a BSc (Zoology) at the University of Pretoria in 2024, with the aim of qualifying for BVSc (Veterinary Sciences) and realizing her lifelong dream of becoming a caring Vet.
Walter fell on hard times, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in his early forties, resulting in him being medically boarded, shortly after his diagnosis.
Corrie is a very hardworking and caring mother who became the breadwinner and she is working tirelessly to provide for the family.
Corrie and Walter have made many sacrifices to enable Angel to pursue her dream, including renting out their house, whilst moving into the granny flat on the same property, thereby enabling them to use some of the rental income towards Angel's studies. They managed their finances carefully to ensure that Angel can pursue her studies, but several unforeseen setbacks, have thwarted their plans for 2024.
All indications are that the family will be able to support Angel from 2025 onwards, through making substantial sacrifices and by cutting their cloth to suit, but 2024 remains a challenge.
Despite the family's best efforts, Angel still need a substantial amount of funding, to cover her tuition and books (Tuition alone is approximately R83,000), in 2024.
Over the years the alumni of our matric class have supported many of our class mates through financial difficulties, and we intend to support Corrie and Walter, as well, in their endeavors.
However, the approximately R25,000 to R30,000 shortfall in the 2024 tuition fees is a substantial gap to cover, and I therefore appeal to those that are in a privileged position to contribute towards Angel's studies, which, in-turn, will ultimately lead to her contributing positively to our wonderful nation's economy.
All donations will flow directly into the University of Pretoria's accounts to cover Angel's studies.
