Through the art of movement and dance, I have learned to cultivate a deep inner sense of true freedom. Through this art form, I have broken free from the shackles that had me bound up…
Head Choreographers and Owners of The Kingdom’s LAB Dance Centre, JP and Karla Saayman
started the studio in 2013 and 2018 respectively. They have in 2019 combined their studios to form The Kingdom’s LAB Dance Centre. Now represented in PTA East and in Centurion and twice as powerful, their knowledge extends from Hip-Hop and other street styles like Popping, Krump, B-boy, House etc. to the future generations of the industry. They have a passion to prepare dancers for the international stage, and to inspire each individual dancer to reach their highest potential through dedication and hard work. The company focuses on both local and international competitions, and they aim to produce dancers that perform well in both fields.
JP and Carla have both been great inspirations to me and I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to learn and grow under their guidance. Thanks to their inspirational platform and the work they do through this dance company, I have had numerous life-changing opportunities:
In February 2023 I danced in the “Limitless Movement Artistic Showcase” at The AfriForum Theatre in Pretoria. In April 2023 I competed in the Gauteng Region of the Hip-Hop International Competition with my crew “J-Unit Pinnacle” and placed 3rd. My crew qualified to represent Gauteng at the National Championship. I also competed in the National division of Hip-Hop International Competition along with my crew “J-Unit Pinnacle” and placed 4th.
In May of 2023 I competed at the Global Dance Supreme regional qualifier and placed 3rd. My crew and I qualified to represent Gauteng at the Nationals Competition in October of 2023.
In June of 2023, J-Unit Pinnacle competed at Dance For Growth (DFG) Competition and we placed 1st in our category, Varsity Advanced Small Groups. We also won the prize money of R3500 for the best crew in the whole competition.
Between the months of July and August 2023 I was one of 6 chosen dancers to form part of the annual SONY Alpha Festival – Myself and 5 other crew members danced in Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town in an all-expenses paid trip by SONY as a surprise dance performance along with other dance performances for the company's Alpha camera series marketing event of the year.
For the duration of 2023, I had been a part of a Teachers Program where dancers train to become qualified Hip-Hop & Street Dance teachers within the dance industry. In September of 2023 I completed my teacher’s examination for the first three levels of Hip-Hop & Street Dance. By passing this examination, I became a qualified teacher for the first 3 years of dancer’s classes.
These opportunities have not only shaped me as a dancer, but as an individual. On top of this, I am proud to say that my dance crew now has the opportunity of a lifetime – to compete at an international competition in Croatia in May of 2024 called DanceStar.
Your generous donation will help our dream of participating in DanceStar come true! Every penny counts and will help tremendously in raising the funds needed to get to Croatia and learn, grow, inspire, and be inspired through other cultures, the beauty of the world around us, and the art form that is dance!
