My name is Michelle Cooper and where do I begin… My poor husband who is only 48 years old. This poor man has been struggling with his leg for more than 4 years, and suffers from pain on a daily basis. I do not think he has slept properly in months. It really breaks my heart.
Unfortunately, on this Friday 8th December 2023, he was involved in a motorcycle accident where he was knocked over and landed on his bad side. He was taken to the hospital at Flora Clinic and now the recent x-rays indicate that his femur is apparently completely dead and that he will require a hip replacement operation.
Even though he is employed, his medical aid, or rather, medical insurance will only cover the hospital stay and not the hardware or procedure.
This was last checked at RoseAcres hospital in Germiston at around R100 000. He has also tried the route of a public hospital and went to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital in October 2022.
We are still waiting on the phone call for the procedure date, however we are doubtful on anywhere in the next 3 years as there is a massive waiting list.
A little bit about him. His name is Andrew Cooper and he is the best man I have ever met, hence why I married him.
He is the sole provider to myself, and our rescued babies, four cats, two dogs and a Corn snake, and even in pain constantly shows love, kindness and compassion.
He is an avid motorcyclist and even with his leg issue, does the round trip of 110 kilometers to work every working day on said bike, as well as doing company site visits, climbing ladders and doing network cabling work with said bad leg. Why does he not drive a car? You ask. Well, because he is also trying to save up some money to fix the gearbox in his car. Automatic gearbox are terrible to repair.
Also, he has had to now give up some of his sporting activities and DIY things too.
I really do not know how he puts up with the pain, which must be excruciating, as he also refuses, most times, to take any pain medication.
Even though he has some debt, he is trying hard to save up for the operation with little luck.
I would just love to see him on the road to a pain free life.

Help with Hip Replacement Operation Campaign

Michelle Cooper is reaching out for support for her husband, Andrew Cooper, who has been suffering from leg pain for over four years. A recent motorcycle accident exacerbated his condition, revealing a dead femur that requires a hip replacement operation. Despite being employed, Andrew's medical insurance covers only the hospital stay and not the necessary hardware or procedure, which costs around R100,000. Attempts at public hospitals have resulted in a lengthy waiting list, potentially delaying the operation for up to three years. Andrew is the sole provider for Michelle and their rescued pets, displaying resilience and compassion despite constant pain. He continues to work as an avid motorcyclist, undertaking a daily 110-kilometer round trip, and faces financial challenges, including saving for a car gearbox repair. Michelle hopes for support to relieve Andrew's pain and enable a better quality of life.
