Hi everyone! My name is Amelia, I was born on the 26th January at 6:30pm. I was born at 33 weeks and 4 days. My mommy and doctor decided it would be best to deliver me early as there was a large build up of fluid in my amniotic sac. 

 
When I was born I did not cry much and the doctors quickly realized I could not breathe. They rushed me to NICU and put me on a ventilator. The doctors thought it was strange that I was struggling to breathe and they decided to take an x-ray of my chest. They saw I had a hole in my diaphragm and my intestines had moved on top of my lungs, making it difficult for me to breathe properly. 
 
After my mommy and doctors deciding what was the best way forward, they decided that I have to have surgery to move my intestines back into place and close the whole in my diaphragm. So at less than 48 hours old I had my first surgery, it was a success! 
 
I am currently on a ventilator still recovering, I am doing well, and I know soon, my mommy will be able to hold me in her arms for the first time. But I know my mom is worried about my medical bills, we do not have medical aid at the moment. The hospital has estimated my surgery and ICU stay to cost BWP280,000 (ZAR385,000), which is money my mom never planned for. We have managed to raise some funds, but it is not enough, if you feel that you would like to help us please feel free to do so.
