Personal message
From the 6th April 2024, I will be cycling 1600km. I'll be following the Western Cape 50 Passes 1000 mile route, starting in Knysna and passing through Swellendam, Cape Town and Oudtshoorn. There will be 23,390m of vertical ascent over the entire route.
I love helping people in need through cycling. It changed my life in many ways and I believe I can change other people's lives through riding my bicycle.
Leading up to this cycle, I have decided to raise funds for children's education packs. These will be distributed to children in disadvantaged communities as part of Knysna Education Trust's preschool intervention programme. The children on the programme are falling behind in their developmental milestones and KET helps them get back on track for Grade R.
Supplying these education packs will help children who do not have many learning resources available to them. With our help, they can develop the skills to succeed in formal school, breaking the cycle of poverty.
These funds will be used to donate 550 education packs, costing R70 per pack.
What's in the education packs?
1) A booklet with activity guidelines for parents to help the children continue learning during the holidays
2) Play dough
3) Pencils
4) Books
5) Socks to make a puppet with. This is one of the activities outlined in the booklet.
RIDE FOR A REASON CHALLENGE
Knysna's community has decided to show support for me by taking on their own challenge during the week of my cycle. Partipants can choose to run, cycle or walk any route they like during this week, and donate R140 towards two children's education packs.
Cycle: 70KM
Walk: 10KM
Swim: 2KM
Donations can please be made to this BackaBuddy initative. Once you have donated please send a message to KET on 0761923680 with your name.
