Cape Kidney Association has been in existence since 1978. Sadly we were hard hit by the Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdown. Fundraising is our main source of income to assist Indigent kidney patients at the Provincial Hospitals.
Patients are suffering from chronic kidney failure and cannot find employment due to having to be on Dialysis three times per week for four hours. Many of them are the breadwinners in their families. Kidney failure affects not only the patient but the family and their employment if they are lucky enough to find work.
They also require medication, but our main focus is to assist with monthly food hampers, which the hospital dietician formulates. We have not been able to support these patients since December 2022, and the funds were raised by a gentleman who ran the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and raised funds.
Kidney failure is silent and can affect anyone. The Cape Kidney Association assists Indigent Kidney patients on Dialysis at Provincial Hospitals. Raising much-needed funds will allow us to purchase the food hampers.
Cape Kidney Association had to close its office in August 2021, and I, Molly Fabe, have been working remotely to keep the Association open. However, fundraising is very difficult. I now work voluntarily since I am passionate about assisting these patients and have been working with Social Workers for 23 years. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
We support 160 x patients monthly, and each hamper costs R350.00 per hamper to feed a family, which is only done once a month.
As mentioned before, the office has closed, and I am working remotely at my expense as I have a passion for Cape Kidney patients.

Statistics
Cape Kidney Association

The Cape Kidney Association was founded in 1978 by a group of Nephrology Doctors and Nurses who saw the need to assist the Indigent kidney patients. Patients travel from afar as there are no dialysis units close by. We serve majority patients in the Renal Unit at Groote Schuur and Tygerberg Hospitals. Most of the patients are unemployed and some of them receive disability grants.
