International Team Rhodes Run 2018 iziCathulo Project

iziCathulo is a charity project to raise funds to buy one pair of shoes and two pairs of mohair socks for 250 school children who attend the Zakhele School in Rhodes Village, Eastern Cape Highlands, South Africa.

The team of runners will brave South Africa's iconic Rhodes Run, which starts and finishes in the tiny mountain village of Rhodes at 1832mas in the southern Drakensberg Mountains. Between that start and finish runners must conquer 52km of technical trail with a cumulative climb of approx. 1600m. What goes up, must come down too.

No donations will be used to subsidise the personal or travel costs of any of the runners – this is all about the children.

These children run and walk to school, often barefoot or in worn hand-me-down shoes. It is always a wild landscape and in winter it is very cold. At some point each year there is thick snow.

This small group of trail runners and their friends CAN make a big difference to the experience of each of those 250 children every day. We who know the importance of good shoes when tackling rough terrain, can work together to donate &/or raise enough money to buy each of those children a pair of school shoes and two pairs of warm socks. That will cost ZAR450 (US$33 / €28 / £25) per child. Any additional funds raised will buy sports kit.
