Discovery 947 Ride Joburg 2019

Our 2019 Elite team of cyclists are ready to take on the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg Challenge for children with cancer.  Also, back by popular demand, we are riding last year’s flipped route that spans approximately 94.7km of thrilling Joburg terrain. Some of the busiest roads on the continent will be shutting down, to offer cyclists of all abilities a liberatingly safe space to Ride for a Purpose.

This year our Rainbows and Smiles team is ecstatic to announce that we have children registering as champions, to ride the Discovery 947 Kiddies Ride.

Every year in South Africa, almost 1000 children are diagnosed with cancer.  Our socio-economic challenges, and generally poor level of awareness of early warning signs of childhood cancer, means that a large number of these children are diagnosed very late into their illness.  As a result, they face a difficult battle.

Team Rainbows Riders is on a mission to raise awareness and funds for children fighting cancer.

Your champion’s chosen charity is a community-based, charitable foundation dedicated to providing emotional, social and financial support to children diagnosed with cancer or a life-threatening illness, and their families and caregivers.

Rainbows and Smiles is not funded by government, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters and the passion of our volunteers to enable us to do the work we do.
